This paper aims to contribute to the on-going discussion on factors that enable compa-nies to achieve a sustained competitive advantage. Preliminary research indicates a con-nection between innovative approaches on the topic of work policies (e.g. high per-formance work systems) and the agility of an organisation. These approaches promise not only increases in economic efficiency and sustainable competitiveness, but are also able to improve working and workers conditions – they are based on mutual gains.
