Project

Oct 2012 - Sep 2014

The Social Web like Platforms such as Facebook, Google + etc. offers youth interesting opportunities and chances but also problematic aspects. The project „Netcompass" aims to provide an information platform about privacy issues and data protection for the Social Web from teenager for teenager.

They will be supported by „Safer Internet Workshops" (ÖIAT), and a Workshop about Instructional Design (University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria).

Students of the study program Communication and Knowledge Media from the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria will set up the information platform during a supervised project. Pupils will make the materials for others available on this platform. In cooperation with the scientific team they evaluate the content and if required they will improve the materials.

Because they create their own relevant information materials the relevance and significance will be increased. Pupils are in the role of an educational designer, because they create information materials for other teenagers. Finally, pupils will get an introduction in evaluation methods and how to conduct empirical research. The scientific team will investigate whether the instructional design for schools enhance safety online use in the Social Web. Safety online use means critical use of the Social Web and reflection about the usage of the Social Web, knowledge and competence about media design.
