IAAA - Interaction Analysis for Automated Adaptation

Project

Oct 2014 - Sep 2016
Nowadays, personalization plays a major role in a multitude of computer-based systems. Additionally, due to the European and national Strategy 2020 concerning demographic change, prospectively aging employees or the focus on intelligent production processes, a further increase in its significance can be expected. Furthermore, the portion of handicapped people in the workforce can be increased by providing tailored hard and software in order to create a regular and meaningful occupation for this group of people. There is, therefore, a rising necessity of software systems to be able to adjust to a preferably broad target group of users bringing about an enormous effort if done without automated solutions.
In the first instance, this research endeavor deals with the development of a  tool capable of automated and systematic analysis of interaction scenarios.
In a next step, the results of these analyses are stored in a user model that based on the recorded parameters recommends input devices but also allows for fine-tuning interaction parameters. Additionally, this information can be used for adapting the user interface (software) itself. By utilizing this automated process, it is possible to avoid significant efforts otherwise arising from the manual configuration.
Software for people with disabilities is chosen as an initial domain because this target group arguably has the most versatile needs for adapting its interactions.
