Increasing the share of renewable energy sources is at the top of most European countries’ agenda. Among others, this aim induces discussions about how to boost bioenergy produc-tion by converting biogenic residues into energy carriers in a profitable way. In doing so, a facility location-allocation model that designs the supply chain network for biomass-based energy carrier production in Upper Austria is set up. In the baseline scenario, the applied mixed-integer programming model yields a profitable solution which locates one conversion plant in the center of Upper Austria.
