Abstract:

As the number of senior people worldwide is growing, requirements of our technical devices are changing. Older users have different needs for their mobile phones than the younger public. Currently available user interfaces do not embrace these needs, which makes interaction interaction for this target group more difficult. We address this issue by introducing a touch screen based UI concept for seniors on mobile handsets. Our concept is based on a architecture consisting of two interface layers: the integrated scalable help system and the book-oriented application design. The second layer is a concept that uses the metaphor of books for menu selection and a flat navigation tree for reducing short-term memory load.
